Project Overview

Budgetty redefines smart wallets for young individuals at risk with financial management needs. It visually displays financial status by changing its thickness based on spending, growing with increased funds and slimming with expenditures. This approach makes managing finances intuitive and interactive.

My Contributions

I spearheaded the conceptualization and design of Budgetty, actively shaping its form. Furthermore, I played a crucial role in designing user interactions based on their experience. My contributions were aimed at providing users with a distinctive and effective asset management experience.

Inspiration

The hidden costs of credit card convenience

In the United States, 81% of shoppers use cards, highlighting the convenience they offer. However, studies by Stanford, MIT, and Carnegie Mellon University reveal that paying with cash activates the "insula" in the brain, causing individuals to feel the pain of spending. In contrast, this pain is significantly reduced when using credit cards, leading users to experience higher levels of spending.

Budgetty — A new yet familiar wallet

When using cash, individuals physically perceive the outflow of money. Similarly, when using Budgetty, users can physically observe its size decreasing accordance with a personal budget. By enabling users to visualize their budget, Budgetty facilitates more intuitive and efficient financial management.

How does Budgetty work in real life?

#1 Congnition

The user slips their hand into their pocket, feeling Budgetty. The thickness of Budgetty serves as a reminder to check their daily balance.

#2 Contemplation

The user becomes aware of their current assets and starts contemplating whether to spend on the item or not.

#3 Decision

The user makes a decision whether to spend or not and engages in cautious and wise spending according to the scale of their assets.

Interface Design

Bridging digital and analog

Budgetty combines the advantages of both digital and analog design. Users can view and edit information through the screen, while the analog interactions allow them to easily feel and manage their assets.

Content-focused screen UI

Budgetty is designed with user-friendliness and readability at its core, utilizing E-ink technology to minimize energy consumption. Additionally, it features an intuitive UI design that remains effective even without the use of color.

Intuitive interface

Budgetty provides intuitive analog inputs through rotation and pressing, allowing users to easily navigate through all settings while minimizing the risk of touchscreen malfunctions in their pockets. This user-friendly interface is designed for clarity and ease of use.

Pocket-friendly design

Budgetty is a product designed to be carried at all times, prioritizing user convenience. We crafted Budgetty to be compact enough to fit in a pocket while offering a sufficiently large screen size, drawing inspiration from items people commonly carry every day.

Environment resistant

Budgetty is a device that needs to be carried at all times. To ensure convenience and reliability, Budgetty aims for wireless charging without a separate charging port, thereby preventing malfunctions and breakdowns in any situation.
